Abstract

In contrast to the separation techniques discussed up to now, separation by exclusion chromatography involves a single, unambiguous mechanism. In the absence of interactions (by definition) between the sample and the stationary phase surface, the elution order (or elution volume) is solely a function of the molecular size (see IX.B). Hence, this method is eminently suited for the separation of high-molecular-weight (polymeric) samples.
