Abstract

The many advances made in femoral neck and fracture fixation surgery have been in part due to the increased use of air instruments. These nitrogen driven, explosion proof instruments have proved their value for surgical insertion and removal of screws. The manual control of rotational speed with the predetermined stall torque prevents stripping of bone threads while placing and removing drills, taps and screws. There is no lateral drift as experienced with hand instruments.
