Abstract

Die elektrische Telegraphie oder die Fernschreibekunst, von dem griechischen tele — fern — und graphein — schreiben — so genannt, ist ganzlich ein Kind unseres an grossen Entdeckungen und tief in das sociale Leben der Menschheit eingreifenden Erfindungen so reichen Jahrhunderts. Es finden sich zwar schon altere Mittheilungen uber Vorschlage oder Einrichtungen, um mit Hulfe der damals allein bekannten Reibungs-Elektricitat Nachrichten aus einem Zimmer in ein benachbartes zu senden, doch waren das unfruchtbare elektrische Spielereien, die man nicht als den ersten Schritt zur jetzigen elektrischen Telegraphie ansehen kann.
