The value of ultrasonography compared with oral cholecystography in the diagnosis of gallstones has been addressed in many papers (Goldberg 1974; Lawson 1977; Anderson and Harned 1977; Arnon and Rosenquist 1976; Cammisa and Armillotta 1981; Crade et al. 1976; Croce et al. 1981; Crow et al. 1976; Hessler et al. 1981; Marano et al. 1981). At the present date, it is universally agreed that ultrasonography should be the first examination for the diagnosis of gallstones. Moreover, ultrasound is useful in the diagnosis of acute and chronic inflammatory disease (Handler 1979; Kane 1980; Marchal 1979, 1980; Findberg and Birnholz 1979; Gonzales and Johnson 1978; Dalla Palma et al. 1979; Engel et al. 1980; Raghavendra et al. 1981a; Ruhe et al. 1979), benign noninflammatory disease, and malignant tumors of the gallbladder (Sanders 1980; Yum and Fink 1980, Carter et al. 1978; Dalla Palma et al. 1980; Ruhe et al. 1979).
