Because of the serious limitations of coronary angiography and in order to provide additional multidimensional information, real-time high-resolution scanning was used intraoperatively to define coronary arteries, atherosclerotic lesions and saphenous vein graft anastomosis. A 12-mHz/2-cm probe was used in 30 patients undergoing myocardial revascularisation. The findings are detailed and scanning techniques described, emphasising the unique value of postreconstruction and endarterectomy imaging. The findings were compared with angiography and whenever possible with the surgical findings.
