Reconstruction of the ACL has become a commonly performed procedure, and the number of ACL reconstructions that are performed annually continues to increase. Overall good to excellent results have been reported. However, a critical review of the literature reveals that success rates vary between 69 and 95 % [1–3]. The increase in the number of ACL reconstruction performed has subsequently led to an increase in the number of ACL failures and the need for revision surgery. The most frequent reason for graft failure is an error in surgical technique (60 %), failure of graft incorporation (30 %), and trauma (10 %).
