Plastic, reconstructive and aesthetic surgeries aim to restore components of the body that have never formed, have been lost or are deformed through different mechanisms. Mostly, the affected body parts exist on visible areas, thus resulting in minor or major disfigurement. Often times, a large area of fat tissue is missing, resulting in contour abnormalities as well as exposure of vital organs. The etiology may be congenital (i.e., Romberg’s disease, Poland syndrome), post-surgical (i.e., mastectomy, cancer ablation), traumatic (i.e., motor vehicle accident, burns) or due to aging and environmental factors [80]. Thus, the function of fat tissue to provide the body with normal contour cannot be overemphasized, as the loss would result in anxiety and major psychosocial impairment in addition to functional problems.
