Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

Abstract

This chapter focuses on both internalizing and externalizing disorders and the empirically supported treatments that are recognized as improving the quality of life for those who suffer from mental illness. Through this chapter the reader will see that the changes in the DSM-5 have little impact on treatment, and the focus on symptoms is most important. Both basic cognitive behavioral techniques will be reviewed as well as advanced treatments methods discussed to provide a spectrum of interventions to meet the broad needs of multiple readers.
