</script>Cells interact not only with each other, but also with the extracellular matrix, which consists of proteoglycan, collagen, elastin, and multiadhesive proteins such as laminin. Both cell/cell and cell/matrix interactions require cell adhesion molecules, some of which occur in cell junctions. Disintegrins and matrix specific metalloprotease (MMP) dissolve these interactions; the latter are regulated by tissue inhibitor of metalloprotease (TIMP).
