
Abstract This chapter briefly reviews the technique of terahertz time-domain spectroscopy (THz-TDS), a powerful method for accessing the spectral range from 100 GHz up to several THz. We first discuss the physical principles upon which the method relies. We then describe the use of THz-TDS for studies of atmospheric propagation. Finally, we discuss other types of measurements for which TDS is well suited, such as, for example, the characterisation of the relative importance of scattering and absorption when a THz beam impinges upon a rough surface.
