
Harassment and bullying in the workplace remain a significant feature of working life, despite both an increased awareness and legislation, around the issue. Employees can experience harassment from other employees and/or managers, and more often than not, this can have profound negative impacts on both individuals and organisations. This chapter provides a sociological overview of workplace harassment; beginning with mapping out the key terms, I offer an overview of social research into workplace harassment and its connection to laws and policies. Subsequently, I provide some theoretical approaches to understanding workplace harassment and reflect on the state of legislation in the UK. This chapter also offers reflections on the #MeToo movement and explores some of the challenges of responding both academically and professionally to allegations of workplace harassment.
