Britain is another US ally with a contentious history and political debate involving the JSF. London intends to purchase Air Force and carrier-based versions of the JSF. As of 2018 some of these aircraft are beginning to be deployed. However, the British JSF still experiences cost and technical problems and has to contend with the Eurofighter Typhoon for resources for British jet fighters. British aerospace contractors have received considerable benefit from participating in the JSF program, and having an effective fighter aircraft capability will be important for British national security interests as it and other NATO allies confront an increasingly assertive Russia.
