
The Treaty on the Nonproliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT), which was concluded in 1968 and came into force in 1970, is not of indefinite duration. Twenty-five years after its entry into force, as provided in Article X.2 of the treaty, a conference must be convened in 1995 to decide whether it will continue indefinitely or be extended for an additional fixed period or periods of time.
