
Migraine is an episodic disorder that has headache as its most prominent feature and occurs in various combinations with autonomic, gastrointestinal and neurological symptoms. Current estimates indicate that 23 million Americans suffer from migraine headaches with more than 11 million experiencing significant headache-related disability (Stewart et al. 1992; Silberstein and Lipton 1994).The prevalence in children is 2–4% (Bille 1962), with boys and girls being equally affected; the prevalence after puberty is about 14% for women and 6% for men (Pryse Phillips et al. 1992; Stewart et al. 1992).
