</script>During lactation, mammary epithelial cells secrete large quantities of milk proteins. More than 90% of these proteins are derived from the transcription of a few tissue-specific genes, expression of which is under a complex multi-hormonal regulation that involves both transcriptional and post- transcriptional mechanisms. Furthermore, to fulfil its bioreactor activity, the mammary gland needs an optimal supply of amino acids as well as efficient translation and transport systems during lactation.
