The use of 5-FU and its effectiveness in the treatment of keloid and hypertrophic scar have been evidenced in several studies reaching very favorable results. Currently, the use has been directed as therapy on healing states with poor evolution already established, where the inhibitory effect of 5-FU on fibroblastic proliferation results in the improvement of the epithelial characteristics of healing. In this work, the premise of reducing the risk of pathological scarring, in people with high probabilities, or recurrence in patients with a history of poor healing, by using gauze soaked with 5-FU applied topically for 5 min over the incisions of the surgical approach made during surgery.
