Acute clean wounds go through a process of healing that is important for physicians dealing with wounds to understand. The author discusses classification of wounds and the phases of wound healing including hemostasis, inflammation, proliferation, and remodeling. There are problems that can suppress wound healing that include the patient’s medical conditions (i.e., diabetes, etc.), thoroughness of wound debridement, microorganisms, dead tissues, and inflammation. Correct clinical management may positively influence the course of wound healing.
