
We report here on two microscopic finds of Egyptian blue in west-central England. The fragments came from heavy mineral separates and micromorphological slides from Roman and Saxon sediments respectively, and were compared with laboratory made cuprorivaite. The strong blue colouration, morphology, optics, EDXRA and XRD results are consistent across the range of archaeological and experimental examples. Further issues of origin, manufacturing and taphonomy are also discussed.
