AbstractThe recently completed new connection between Europe and Asia, the Third Bosphorus Bridge (Yavuz Sultan Selim Bridge) has been immediately recognized as an iconic and new landmark of Istanbul region. The reason is not only the location which makes the crossing a dramatic scenery and a real experience, but of course the structure itself and also its history. Never such an audacious and extreme structure has been built like this, following a strict and severe red and straight line starting from the day of the decision to award the contract to the ICA joint Venture (Içtas/Astaldi) on the base of a project considered by the authorities as the one bringing the most satisfactory answer to their requirements, a project worked out during a competition period of finally eight weeks. And the requirements were very high, exactly at the level prerequisite for such an important structure considering its serviceability, but also its geopolitical context and its economic importance.
