AbstractIn this article simple closed‐form are presented expressions to compute the diffraction loss of open resonators composed of spherical mirrors of circular cross‐section. These expressions, which are based on the numerical results of scalar theory, should be useful in designing mirror size for open resonators. Experiments are conducted at W band to demonstrate the accuracy of the expressions. © 1992 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
