ABSTRACTIn this letter, we introduce a frequency division concept for passive wireless sensors utilizing the intermodulation communication principle. This concept enables multiple identifications (IDs) and multiple access protocol when several sensors are within the reading range of the corresponding reader. The ID and multiple access scheme based on frequency division is experimentally demonstrated with 10 binary passive wireless sensors operating simultaneously in the 866 MHz UHF band. © 2015 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
