ABSTRACTThis article presents a systematic approach for dual‐band impedance matching of an arbitrary load using two matching circuits designed separately for the desired passbands as the basis. Exact transform equations for converting the obtained single‐band matching circuits into a dual‐band matching circuit can be applied to any kind of load impedance with arbitrary frequency‐dependency. The matching and impedance levels can be chosen individually for both passbands. The examples on the dual‐band matching of coupling‐element antennas demonstrate that also wide bandwidths can be achieved. The presented equations facilitate designing multiband matching circuits and are feasible also for solving double matching problems. © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
