AbstractA directional planar ultra‐wideband antenna is described and characterized through numerical and experimental results. The antenna is composed of a disc monopole fed by a 50‐Ω microstrip line with an L‐shaped ground plane. Simulations and measurements performed in an anechoic chamber demonstrate that the structured ground plane behaves as a corner reflector, which allows an increase of directionality with respect to conventional monopoles. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
