AbstractThe new forms of periodic electromagnetic field variables, which can be resolved from the Maxwell's equations, are shown. As a result, periodic guided‐wave problems can be converted into equivalent resonator problems and the eigen‐frequency algorithms of resonators can be used to extract the complex propagation constants of periodic structures. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
