AbstractA refractive index sensor based on the transient behavior of the fiber laser is presented. The refractive index was measured by monitoring the delay time of the lasing from the pump excitation time. High refractive index sensitivity of 10−6 can be obtained. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
