AbstractA simple method involving a single extraction procedure is given for the determination of water‐soluble carbohydrates (sugars + fructosans) in grasses. Factors such as storage of grass samples and clarification, hydrolysis and storage of extracts are discussed. The method is likely to have a routine application in silage studies where a measure of fermentable carbohydrates is required.
