Information processing is an important aspect of health care. Clinical information occurs in various modes including numerical measurements, text, and codes. Considerations important in processing such data include the data collection or input documents, amount and type of processing to be done, and methods for displaying the collected information. A system for handling clinical information has been developed by the Division of Medical Computing Sciences at Tulane University. Although a system such as is described cannot now be iustified economically except for research purposes, hopefully it will soon be abasie component of clinical care.
