Abstract

Key Clinical MessageRetained surgical material needs to be a possible differential diagnosis for patients presenting with unspecific abdominal pain after especially cavitary emergency surgery. Even though international standard checklists concerning sponge handling and counting exist, RSM could never be ruled out completely.
