The presence of a hitherto unrecognized pyridine base, N'-methylnicotinamide, in human urine has been established by electron impact and field ionization mass spectrometry. The quantitative analysis was performed by gas chromatography and by gas chromatography mass spectrometry on extracts of alkalified urine. Large individual variations were found with basal data ranging from 0–82 mg l−1.
