Abstract Following truncal vagotomy some patients develop dysphagia, which rarely can progress to complete obstruction. It has been postulated that haematoma formation in the tissues surrounding the lower oesophagus may lead to peri-oesophageal fibrosis and compression of the lumen of the oesophagus. This has been confirmed by open operation in only a few patients. A case is described in which oesophageal obstruction occurred 3 weeks after a vagotomy and pyloroplasty had been performed.
