Abstract An improved technique of thrombectomy is described. A mobile image intensifier is used throughout the procedure, and the balloon of the Fogarty catheter is inflated with a radio-opaque medium. The advantages of the technique are:— Accurate positioning of the caval occlusion catheter and demonstration of actual occlusion.Localization and manœuvring of the thrombectomy catheter in its passage to the vena cava.Detection of pelvic venous compressions.
