AbstractEnergy transfer phenomena in Ru(bpy)3(ClO4)2 are investigated in order to estimate the optimum layer thickness when this complex is used as a sensitizer on a semiconductor electrode in a photoelectrochemical cell. The optimum thickness appeared to be about five molecular layers. We also examined the luminescence properties of solid dye films of some Ru(bpy)2+3 complexes. It is shown that the luminescence intensity can be used as a probe for studying the behaviour of the light‐sensitive electrode in a photoelectrochemical cell.
