AbstractJosep Maria Montaner describes four buildings that epitomise the flexibility of the Rationalist tendency in Spain. These span the Mies‐inspired minimalism of Javier Garcia Solera; housing schemes that are designed around the present needs of their occupants for adaptable and well‐ventilated spaces, despite being influenced by earlier Rationalist vocabularies; and Carlos Ferrater's JC Decaux Headquarters in Madrid that uses ‘the order and tradition’ of Modernist architecture to create continuity with existing buildings on its site.
