Factor VIII Inhibitor

Abstract

To the Editor.— Dr Waddell and colleagues 1 described the use of porcine factor VIII concentrate in a patient with factor VIII inhibitor. They gave in detail the disadvantages and complications of this material and prothrombin complex concentrates. I would like to mention that a blood fraction devoid of such drawbacks has recently been tested on hemophilic dogs. 2 This fraction, known as Bridge anticoagulant neutralizing agent (BANA), apart from increasing three-fold the level of injected factor VIII, acted directly on factor VIII inhibitor. 2,3 Prowse 4 calculated the amount of donor plasma required to produce sufficient material to neutralize 100 units of factor VIII bypassing activity in the case of two activated prothrombin complex concentrates and BANA. For FEIBA and Autoplex, 45 mL and 89 mL of plasma were needed, respectively. In the case of BANA, only 12.5 mL of plasma were required. In other words, the introduction of
