Abstract

New editions of this superb book, the best abbreviated textbook on pediatrics, have appeared at approximately four-year intervals for the last 20 years. Its popularity is deserved. It meets the need of many physicians for an up-to-date book that encompasses the essentials of a major branch of medicine in a concise manner with less detail than in standard textbooks. The book is based on sound pathophysiological principles and therapeutic advice and is much more than a "cookbook" type. This edition contains 100 more pages than the last and includes five new chapters: "Pediatric Intensive Care," "Pediatric Urology," "Pediatric Dermatology," "Pediatric Otolaryngology," and "Laboratory Values—The Pediatric Range." The last of the five is particularly well compiled and is an excellent reference for physicians outside the field of pediatrics as well as for pediatricians. The chapter on dermatology is well written and illustrated but necessarily incomplete, since it consists of only 21
