CASES of cystitis and pyelonephritis due to Haemophilus influenzae have been infrequently reported since the first decade of this century. 1-5 Recently, we treated a patient for H influenzae prostatitis. This organism was identified only by its growth on chocolate agar, a medium that is not ordinarily used for routine urine cultures. 6 Report of a Case A 53-year-old man was in excellent health until Aug 23, 1981, when he had transient myalgias, pharyngitis, and coryza. The following day he experienced urinary urgency and frequency accompanied by suprapubic and urethral pain. On Aug 26 he had a single episode of gross hematuria. When seen at the University of Wisconsin Hospital, Madison, the next day, he denied respiratory tract symptoms, rash, arthralgias, chills, or penile discharge. He had one steady sexual partner.
