MANY INVESTIGATORS have suggested that a relationship exists between body physique and personality or personality disorders such as schizophrenia, depression, and homosexuality. 1-4 The corollary of this notion has been the hypothesis that personality or personality disorders may be involved in the pathogenesis of disease; for example, coronary artery disease, hypertension, asthma, etc. It is not our intention to critically review the data that have been reported with respect to these hypotheses. The data supporting the original hypothesis have been obtained by somatotyping from photographs or visual inspection or by anthropomorphic techniques. 1-4 During the past two decades new techniques have been developed for the evaluation of body physique. 5-6 This report presents data obtained by the application of some of these newer techniques during the course of a multidisciplinary study of schizophrenic patients.
