The use of four radioisotopes, selenium 75 (75Se), gallium 67 (67Ga), indium 111 (111In), and sodium phosphate 32 (32P), suitable for tumor scanning is discussed with emphasis on the diagnosis of malignant tumors of the head and neck. Personal experience with the latter two radioisotopes is described. Scanning with transferrin tagged with111In was positive in seven of ten (70%) head and neck malignant tumors. The32P uptakes were positive in ten of ten intraoral malignant tumors (100%), seven of seven malignant skin lesions (100%), and three of seven malignant neck masses (43%).
