</script>In recent years, particularly in the past decade, there has been much research regarding the syndrome first described by Meniere. There is a tendency to introduce symptom complexes other than Meniere's syndrome into these studies. Meniere's disease as defined in the original paper is a chain of disturbances, sudden in onset, in otherwise healthy ears, causing nausea, vomiting, loss of equilibrium, nystagmus and total or partial loss of hearing affecting one or both parts of the internal ear. It is significant that the vestibular and cochlear functions are damaged simultaneously and that frequently both ears are affected at the same time. The organ of Corti and the surrounding structures appear to obtain nutrition from three different sources. Arterial twigs pass with the cochlear branch of the auditory nerve and traverse the foramens in the spiral lamina alongside the outgoing nerve fibers, to join with several arteries which run around the
