Study of the etiology of 200 surgical cases of ptosis suggests that a revision of our old method of clinical classification is in order. The cause of the ptoses in many cases is ordained by inheritance at birth, hence their classification as either congenital or acquired later in life is questioned. A modified method of etiologic classification is proposed. A new subgroup of lateappearing unilateral ptosis is reported.
