Isobutyl 2-cyanoacrylate surgical adhesive was combined with silicone, gelatin, poly(2,3-dihydroxypropyl methacrylate) (PGMA), and poly(2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate) (PHEMA) to investigate sutureless scleral buckling techniques. Good results were obtained in rabbits. The unique characteristics of tissue adhesives and hydrogels and their potential applications in retinal detachment surgery are discussed.
