The Conduction System of the Heart

Abstract

This fine monograph is the outgrowth of a structure-function workshop on cardiac conduction tissue held in the Netherlands in the spring of 1975. The three editors, all members of the Department of Cardiology and Clinical Physiology, Wilhelmina Gasthuis, Amsterdam, dedicated the volume to Dr Durrer. They gathered a distinguished group of electrophysiologists and morphologists and presented the material in the following seven major parts: anatomy and physiology of the developing conduction system, electron microscopy of the conduction system, impulse formation and conduction, sinus node and atrium, the atrioventricular junction, the bundle branches and the ventricle, the Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome, and myocardial infarction. Of the 37 chapters, five are devoted to morphologic features of the conduction system and the remaining 32 to electrophysiology. Although only 16% of the nonbibliographic portion of this book concerns morphology, these 107 pages by Anderson et al are superbly written and beautifully illustrated. The electrophysiology chapters contain
