AN INVESTIGATION ON FEMALE TEACHERS WORKING IN PRIVATE TUTORING CENTERS IN THE CONTEXT OF GLASS CEILING SYNDROME

Abstract

The increased demand for labor due to industrialization has increased women's participation in the workforce. However, women's presence in senior positions has not paralleled this development. One of the most significant factors deepening discrimination in the workplace is the glass ceiling syndrome. Eliminating the glass ceiling syndrome not only impacts the advancement of women but also contributes to societal development. This study aims to explore the effects of gender discrimination, manifested through societal roles and responsibilities attributed by society, on women's experiences of the glass ceiling syndrome in the workplace. Specifically, the study focuses on female teachers, aiming to uncover their experiences and perceptions of the glass ceiling syndrome. Using a descriptive approach, the study interprets findings obtained through semi-structured interviews conducted with female teachers working in tutoring centers in Tekirdağ/Çorlu. Based on these findings, the reasons why women struggle to advance in their careers and the potential consequences will be highlighted.
