The article considers independent learning as a type of education for medical students, which allows future doctors to form professional competencies. Independent work of students is a variety of individual and collective activities of students, which are carried out under the guidance, but without the direct participation of a teacher, in a specially allocated classroom or extracurricular time. This type of special form of professional training according to the teacher's tasks requires active mental activity. This contributes to the development of general cultural and professional competencies. The work notes the main types of independent work, the difficulties that students encounter while performing the work. It is shown that the methodological basis of students' independent work is an activity approach focused on the formation of skills and abilities, where students need to demonstrate knowledge of a specific medical discipline. It is emphasized that in the organization of students' independent work at all stages of training, the formation of motivation is of great importance, the emphasis of which should be shifted from external to internal motivation, in order to obtain knowledge and skills to achieve success in professional activity. The main points of various types of independent work of students, which are used in the educational process by teachers of the Department of Pediatric Diseases and Pediatric Surgery of the Ternopil National Medical University named after I. Ya. Horbachevsky, are described. The main types of activities of independent work of students and a number of problems that a student faces while performing this activity are highlighted. It is emphasized that in the future, independent work of students should continue to be provided with active and competent approaches and competent methodological support, taking into account a number of problems that reduce the effectiveness of this type of work.

У статті розглянуто самостійне навчання, як вид освіти студентів-медиків, що дає змогу майбутнім лікарям сформувати професійні компетенції. Самостійна робота студентів – це різноманітні види індивідуальної та колективної діяльності студентів, які здійснюються під керівництвом, але без безпосередньої участі викладача в спеціально відведений для цього аудиторний або позааудиторний час. Такий вид особливої форми професійної підготовки за завданнями викладача, потребує активної розумової діяльності. Це сприяє розвитку загальнокультурних та професійних компетенцій. В роботі відмічені основні види самостійної роботи, труднощі з якими стикаються студенти під час виконання роботи. Показано, що методологічну основу самостійної роботи студентів становить діяльнісний підхід, орієнтований на формування умінь та навичок, де студентам треба проявити знання конкретної медичної дисципліни. Акцентовано, що в організації самостійної роботи студентів на всіх етапах навчання має велике значення формування мотивації, акценти якої мають бути зсунуті із зовнішньої на внутрішню мотивацію, з метою отримання знань і навичок для досягнення успіху в професійній діяльності. Охарактеризовані основні моменти різних видів самостійної роботи студентів, які застосовуються в навчальному процесі викладачами кафедри дитячих хвороб з дитячою хірургією Тернопільського національного медичного університету імені І. Я. Горбачевського. Висвітлені основні види діяльності самостійної роботи студентів та низку проблем, з якими стикається студент під час виконання даної діяльності. Акцентується, що самостійна робота студентів, в майбутньому має і надалі забезпечуватися діяльним і компетентним підходами та грамотним методичним забезпеченням з врахуванням низки проблем, що понижують ефективність виконання даного виду роботи.
