The purpose of the study is to clarify and analyze the evolution of the politics of the United States of America (US) policy toward Palestinian refugees in the second half of the twentieth and early twenty-first centuries. The research methodology is based on the methods of comparative, contextual and critical analysis, as well as an interdisciplinary approach. The scientific novelty of the article consists in the consideration and analysis of various aspects of this problem in view of the dynamics of political events, changes in American foreign policy and the role of the United States in the Middle East. Conclusions. After the creation of the state of Israel in 1948, the problem of Palestinian refugees arose, the number of which reached hundreds of thousands. The United States initially supported their right to return, but later changed its position in favour of Israel. In the 1950s and 1960s, the United States provided humanitarian aid to Palestinian refugees through the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees, but avoided a political solution to the problem. Since the late 1960s, the United States has been more supportive of Israel in its confrontation with Arab countries and the Palestine Liberation Organization, and the right of return of refugees has been virtually ignored. In the 1990s and 2000s, despite the peace process in the Middle East, the refugee issue remained unresolved due to Israel’s opposition, and the United States did not insist on resolving it. In general, the US policy towards Palestinian refugees has evolved from moderate support to practical disregard for their rights and interests in favour of Israel. In sum, Washington’s policy toward Palestinian refugees is complex and evolving, and is determined by numerous factors such as geopolitics, international relations, domestic politics, and other factors. The United States has been directly involved in and witnessed numerous attempts to resolve the conflict in the Middle East, and the issue of Palestinian refugees remains an important aspect of this process.

Мета дослідження полягає у з’ясуванні та аналізі еволюції політики Сполучених Штатів Америки (США) щодо палестинських біженців у другій половині ХХ – на початку ХХІ століття. Методологію дослідження становлять методи компаративного, контекстуального та критичного аналізів, а також інтердисциплінарного підходу. Наукова новизна статті полягає в розгляді й аналізі різних аспектів цієї проблеми з огляду на динаміку політичних подій, зміни в американській зовнішній політиці та ролі США на Близькому Сході. Висновки. Після утворення держави Ізраїль у 1948 році виникла проблема палестинських біженців, кількість яких сягала сотень тисяч. США спочатку підтримували їхнє право на повернення, але згодом змінили позицію на користь Ізраїлю. У 1950–1960-х роках Сполучені Штати надавали гуманітарну допомогу палестинським біженцям через відповідне Близькосхідне агентство ООН, але уникали політичного вирішення проблеми. З кінця 1960-х років США стали більше підтримувати Ізраїль у протистоянні з арабськими країнами та Організацією визволення Палестини, а право на повернення біженців фактично ігнорувалося. У 1990–2000-х роках, незважаючи на мирний процес на Близькому Сході, питання біженців залишалося нерозв’язаним через протидію Ізраїлю, своєю чергою США не наполягали на його вирішенні. Загалом політика США щодо палестинських біженців еволюціонувала від поміркованої підтримки до практичного ігнорування їхніх прав та інтересів на користь Ізраїлю. Отже, політика Вашингтону щодо палестинських біженців є складною та еволюційною і визначається численними факторами, такими як геополітика, міжнародні відносини, внутрішня політика та інші чинники. Сполучені Штати ставали безпосередніми учасниками і свідками численних спроб вирішення конфлікту на Близькому Сході, і питання палестинських біженців залишається важливим аспектом цього процесу.
