EVALUATION OF THE EFFICIENCY OF ION-EXCHANGE EXTRACTION OF IRON IONS FROM ACIDIC WASTEWATER OF ELECTROPLATING INDUSTRIES

EVALUATION OF THE EFFICIENCY OF ION-EXCHANGE EXTRACTION OF IRON IONS FROM ACIDIC WASTEWATER OF ELECTROPLATING INDUSTRIES

Abstract

The paper describes the problems of utilization and processing of wastewater from electroplating production containing iron ions in its composition.Among all existing methods of purification, the most effective ion exchange method was chosen. In the course of the research, the strongly acidic cation exchange resin Dowex HCR S/S in the Na+ form was chosen as a sorption material. The sorption of iron (II) ions was carried out under dynamic conditions and at different concentrations of sulfuric acid. The choice of a strong acid cationite was due to the fact that the exchange capacity of strong acid cationites is almost independent of pH. However, experimental studies have shown that with an increase in the concentration of sulfuric acid, the total exchange capacity of the cationite decreases significantly during the sorption of iron ions. However, an increase in the concentration of iron ions led to an increase in the efficiency of the method under study. A significant advantage of ion exchange over other methods was the possibility of effective regeneration of cation exchange material with 5 and 10 % sulfuric acid solutions.
