SOCIALLY RESPONSIBLE INVESTMENT AS A DRIVER OF SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT IN BIOENERGY

SOCIALLY RESPONSIBLE INVESTMENT AS A DRIVER OF SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT IN BIOENERGY

Abstract

The article examines the role of socially responsible investing in the development of the bioenergy sector in the context of global climate and energy problems, with the aim of identifying ways to increase the effectiveness of attracting such investments. The essence of socially responsible investment as an strategy that combines financial efficiency with adherence to environmental and social standards is highlighted. The impact of socially responsible investment on the development of bioenergy in Ukraine is examined in the context of post-war recovery, energy independence, and European integration processes. It is determined that the key factors contributing to the low level of socially responsible investment in bioenergy include financial market instability, high investment risks, insufficient government support, and limited access to long-term financing. It is found that bioenergy can ensure energy security, promote the sustainable development of the agricultural sector, and stimulate regional economic growth. Criteria for socially responsible investment in bioenergy are proposed, integrating economic benefits with a positive impact on society and the environment. International experience is analyzed, demonstrating the effectiveness of "green" investment in improving environmental standards and enhancing companies' competitiveness. The principles of socially responsible investment in bioenergy are examined, including purposefulness, comprehensiveness, continuity, environmental sustainability, responsibility, efficiency, balance, innovativeness, adaptability, localization, and transparency. The role of government policy in stimulating socially responsible investment through financial mechanisms, such as «green» bonds, grants, incentives, and innovation support, is outlined. Examples of successful bioenergy projects in Ukraine are provided, showcasing the sector's potential even under martial law conditions. It is proven that the development of socially responsible investment in bioenergy will contribute to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, strengthening energy security, and shaping an environmentally oriented economy.
