UKRAINIAN NAVAL HISTORIOGRAPHY OF THE REVOLUTION 1917–1921 IN THE DIASPORA RESEARCHERS’ STUDIES

Abstract

The article analyses the studies of the Ukrainian diaspora historians on the national naval development during the Ukrainian Revolution of 1917–1921. They consider the main measures, analyse the achievements and miscalculations. It is concluded that the bulk of the studies on this issue was prepared by S. Shramchenko. This author thoroughly analysed almost all areas of the Ukrainian Navy creation in this period. The contribution of S. Shramchenko to the study of the naval history of Ukraine in the early 20th century and the importance of these works for modern scholars are determined. It has been established that other researchers of the Ukrainian diaspora have largely covered the main events, organisational work on the development of the Ukrainian Navy in 1917–1921 and analysed the successes, main issues and miscalculations that arose. They demonstrated a certain interest in the issues of naval development in Ukraine as an important component of the military sphere. The possibility of using these materials in the national-patriotic education of the military personnel of the modern Armed Forces of Ukraine is emphasised.
