CHANGES IN THE STRUCTURE OF THE PERSONALITY OF MILITARY SERVICE SERVICE PERSONNEL UNDER A CONTRACT HAVING THE STATUS OF A PARTICIPANT OF COMBAT ACTIONS

Abstract

Introduction. That was not a secret that traumas of servicemen which they received at the combat field could cause deep emotional scars which influenced their ability to act in civilian life. However, there was a need to point out that the service even without any combat operations provided unnoticeable and long-lasting impact on the personality of an individual that significantly complicated the relationship between the servicemen who participated in hostilities, colleagues in service, friends, and family. Purpose. There were distinguished the changes in the structure of personality of servicemen who served under the contract after their participation in hostilities in the East of Ukraine. Methods. The research included almost 400 servicemen who served under the contract and a half of participants took part in hostilities. To determine personal peculiarities of servicemen who served under the contract there was used the “16 Personality Factor Questionnaire” proposed by Cattell R. with the use of interpretational scheme developed by Kapustina A. M. Student’s T-Test was used to compare the peculiarities of personal traits of servicemen who had experience of the participation in hostilities and those who did not have such experience. The procedure of factor analysis was used to determine the peculiarities of the structure of personality characteristics. Statistical processing was carried out with the help of statistical package analysis SPSS. Originality. The research gave the possibility to improve the realization of the changes of the structure of servicemen personality after their participation in hostilities. Conclusion. The conducted research demonstrated that servicemen who served under the contract were characterized with self-confidence, sufficient intellectual abilities, communicative skills, ability to control their emotionality as well as formation and support of relations. However, the participants in hostilities in the process of interaction with the surrounding objects and social world had better realization of specific circumstances of how to achieve goals, reflect, and analyze the reasons of their failures. That could be seen from the differences between the compared groups as well as due to the factor “M” (practicality-reverie) and “E” (subordination-dominance). There were distinguished 4-factor structure of personality peculiarities within the representators of both groups. For the servicemen who did not have any experience of participation in hostilities those factors were: extroversion (direction towards brave acquisition of external social world and inability to reflect); independence (inability to consider the interests of other people), anxiety (sensitivity to the approval of others), and self-control (control over the impression they attract). The structure of personal factors underwent significant changes among the participants in hostilities. Within the structure it was possible to distinguish the following factors: self-confidence (trust in themselves, their own abilities, and their ability to self-realize); practical orientation of the intellect (ability to consider current specific circumstances searching for the solution of problematic situations); interest in practical acquisition of the surrounding world (ability to determine important things, to give personal sense to the world, and, accordingly, to concentrate the energy in necessary for them direction), and susceptibility to new things (ability to depart from the patterns and see new ways of solving the problematic situations).
