NONVERBAL MEANS OF COMMUNICATION IN THE TEACHERS’ PROFESSIONAL ACTIVITY

NONVERBAL MEANS OF COMMUNICATION IN THE TEACHERS’ PROFESSIONAL ACTIVITY

Abstract

The article addresses the analysis of nonverbal communication as an important component of the teachers’ professional activity. The main theoretical approaches to the study of non-verbal communication, its function, and its importance in the educational process are considered. Particular attention is paid to the classification of non-verbal means, including facial expressions, gestures, postures, intonation, space organization of communication, which affect the effectiveness of interaction between teachers and students. The practical part of the article features the use of non-verbal means in pedagogical activity. Their influence on classroom discipline, student motivation, and the creation of a favourable psychological climate is analyzed. The study traces the use of various means of non-verbal communication, which is important for the organization of the educational process. The results of the survey are presented, based on which it can be stated that the majority of teachers note the importance of non-verbal communication in pedagogical interaction. The main difficulties that teachers may face are identified, and recommendations for utilizing non-verbal communication tools in the educational process are developed. It is confirmed that the effective use of non-verbal means helps to improve communication and develop trusting relationships with students. The teacher's nonverbal behaviour can both stimulate the activity of students and cause them to feel discomfort or insecurity. A high level of mastery of nonverbal communication contributes to the establishment of effective partnerships between the teacher and students, increasing their level of motivation for learning, improving discipline in the classroom, and the effectiveness of pedagogical interaction in general.
